Locs Journey: 27 Months / 2 Years and 3 months Update (Semi Freeform Locs)

April 2020 (27 Months Loc'd)

Blessings Everyone! With all that's going on in the world, I hope you all are staying safe, healthy and as stress free as possible.

I just wanted to do a quick update on my locs. I started them January 2018 so it's been almost 2 and a half years since I started them. I haven't been in much of a picture/selfie mood, so the last pic I took of my locs was back in April(2 years and 3 months loc'd).
If I were to classify them, which I will for blogging purposes, they are semi freeform.

I love my locs. They are so low maintenance, cost virtually no money to maintain and I wouldn't change anything about these beauties. Because I do not retwist, it takes longer to see the length, but I am okay with that. Patience is key and since I hope to have these for a very long time, the length will come.

My regimen hasn't changed much. But since I live between the States and the Caribbean, I care for my locs differently depending on where I am.

In the Caribbean, I don't use any shampoo or oils. I:
  • wash my hair at the beach(salt water), at the river/waterfall(spring water), with rain water and occasionally in the shower.
  • occasionally rinse my hair with Aloe or Hibiscus Leaves.
In the States, I:
  • wash my locs with Dr. Bronners or Black Soap. I tried a Whole Foods shampoo that didn't work well, at all, so I stick to those two. I wash probably 1-2 times a month(the most)
  • spritz my locs with distilled water or rose water a few times a week
No Matter Where I am, I:
  • don't do any retwisting, just separating
  • BUT if a loc is getting thin at the base, I do incorporate loose hair into that loc by either braiding it in or wrapping the loose hair around the base.
  • keep my hair wrapped up about 90% of the time.

On to the pics:

  3. OMG! I found you in my bookmarks. I used to follow you when you/we were relaxed. I've cut my natural hair off and wear it close cropped and I loc'd my daughter's hair in February and it is freeing!

    1. Hi Kyle,

Thank you!! I started with two strand twists. I have never retwisted them, just separate them occasionally and sometimes braid them(3 locs at a time) for the wavy look.

    1. Hi! I started with two strand twists and in the beginning of my journey I did water washing frequently. I believe that’s why they were able to hang.
