Protective Style #2- Yarn Braids

Good Morning! Hope everyone had a great weekend.

I just wanted to check in with y'all on my Protective Styling challenge.

So I kept my last set of twists in for exactly 8 weeks. They started looking raggedy(to me) between week 6 and 7, so it was time for them to go.
I kept my hair loose, wearing a puff, for 2 weeks after removing them. In those 2 weeks, I washed and conditioned my hair 3 times. I did a mild protein treatment 2 of those times. I also trimmed about .5 -1 inch all around. Those ends needed to go and now I will focus on just dusting for the remainder of the year.

So for the next protective style, I chose to do Yarn Braids. I have never done them before and always liked the look so thought this was the perfect time to give it a try.

I purchased the acrylic yarn from Walmart. The jumbo black yarn cost $5.98 and the Cranberry color cost $1.98. I still have a good amount of black yarn left and almost the whole spool of the cranberry yarn left.

It took my about 10/11 hours to complete my whole head. It took about 1 hour just to cut the yarn which I did so by wrapping it around table legs then cutting down the middle. I moisturized each section with Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Soufflé mixed with the JBCO Leave-in Conditioner.  I used 4 strands of yarn everywhere except on my hairline. On my hairline, I used 3 strands.
To secure the ends, I just tied a knot then cut off the excess yarn. I initially tried boiling the ends, but that DID NOT work out, so I had to burn them.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the look of these. They kind of look like locs, but they're braids, so I get the best of both worlds.
I may do these again, but will be sure to cut enough yarn from the beginning(had to go back and keep cutting) and burn the ends as I go.

I will most likely keep these in for 6 weeks. 8 weeks is just too long for me.
