3 Signs Your Hair Needs a Break

We've all had those moments when we get fed up with our hair and just don't know what to do with it. For most, the frustration passes, but for others they take drastic measures. Don't be the latter. This is where long term protective styles come in handy. Sometimes our hair just needs a break. I typically get twists or braids that last up to 6 weeks, but there are so many other protective styles you can do. For instance, wigs, weaves, crochet braids, all sorts of twists with added hair, faux locs and much more. Keep that in mind before you do anything drastic.

Edit: This post is for those who actually do(and enjoy) protective styles in their hair journey.


Anyway, here are 3 signs your hair really needs a break.




1.) You Become Impatient on Wash-Day- Wash day is one of the most critical moments in our hair journey. Now I know a lot of us dread wash day which can be a normal feeling, but if you find yourself mistreating your hair in the process, there's a problem. If you're constantly ripping through your hair while detangling, skipping important steps or just on the verge of pulling your hair out, it's time for a break.


2.) You're Not Happy With What You See- If you suddenly hate how your hair looks every time you look in the mirror, it might be time for a change


3.) You Feel Like Cutting it ALL Off- It's easier to cut your hair off than it is to grow it. Think long and hard before you do it. Whenever I hear women, who have been on a hair journey, say they want to cut off their hair(for various reasons), I always suggest getting a short wig to see how it looks. I also suggest hiding the hair for a while then make the decision afterwards. In most cases, they change their mind.

So, before you do something you may regret, think about this post and get you a weave...or braids...or slap a wig on. :-)

  1. I wish I could change mine to some hair colors I'd like to try, like white, but unfortunately I'm allergic to chemical hair dyes. :( Hence, the indigo, I guess I'll just be going back to blue black! lol I wore mine in a pulled back pony tail for so long it hurt my scalp afterwards, yikes.

    1. I feel the same way. I prefer natural hair dyes so it's either henna or henna & indigo.
      Oh man, that's when you know it's time for a break from ponytails.

  2. I was totally there last month. I was to a point where nothing made me happy! I finally decided to get a hair cut and I'm now back in love.
