Weekend Wrap Up: NYC Edition

Hey Ladies! Hope you all had a great weekend!
I haven't done a weekend wrap-up in so long!! I need to get back to this.

Let me jump right in. This is going to be short one, since I didn't take many pics :(

On Thursday night, I did a Henna and Indigo treatment. I knew I wanted to wear my hair out(since it was in twists all week), but I also wanted my hair to be JET BLACK. This was my first time using both of these brands, so I was a little nervous. But they worked very well on my hair. I kept the Henna on for only a hour and the Indigo on for 2 hours.
If anyone is interested in another pictorial post, let me know.
So this is day one hair the night after I did the Henna & Indigo treatment. It's still pretty shrunken, but as I said, I like it this way. A stretched puff, just doesn't look good on me and I'm still not comfortable wearing my hair down. I need a litttttle bit more length first.

Can I just tell y'all how much I LOVED the Nuyorican Poets Cafe. Omgoodness..It was like being at a Comedy show, club and poetry slam all at the same time. Plus there were so many beautiful naturals there.

When we got home, even though it was late as h*ll, I had to braid my hair. I moisturized with my Shea-Butter mix, which is GOLDEN on my natural hair, then put in about 10 braids. This is day 2 hair. It was stretched a lot more than this, but I sprayed my hair with my AVJ mix to shrink it up a little.

I need to know who's out there giving their dogs plastic surgery. LOL. I  hope to God this is a joke!!

We did some shopping in Manhattan and 125th street in Harlem. I got these earrings at some African Shop in Harlem. I love Ankhs and big earrings. Can't wait to wear these with my fro. We also went to Sylvia's for some good ol' Soul Food! Loved that place.

I searched high and low for a plain black, inexpensive, beanie because I planned on putting my hair in twists for the week. I usually pin them up during the week, but wanted to wear a beanie on my way back home. I ended bargaining with a vendor at Port Authority for $6.00; Good deal.
*Sorry for the crappy pic!
Highlights from my trip:
I got my first compliment on my natural hair from a stranger after 10 minutes of being in NYC
Nuyorican- Bomb.com
Someone asked for my assistance in a Beauty Supply store because they thought my hair looked really healthy- She was transitioning and wanted product suggestions
We watched some really good movies!
Got a work-out from all the walking
Sylvia's- Bomb.com
My hair stayed moisturized, despite the snow, the whole time!

Now it's time for me to get some rest!

  4. Your trip sounded wonderful. My sister drives to NY to get her hair braided and shopping. She says the shopping is the best. I am waiting for warmer weather to go shopping with her. I am finally getting the hang of keeping my hair moist in this cold weather.
BTW love the rainbow Houndstooth scarf.

    1. It was fun! I love NYC.
She's right, the shopping is the best. And you're smart to wait for warmer weather. You will def enjoy it more.
Luckily, the cold weather will be gone soon. But out here in New England..this snow in the winter is killing me lol

      Thanks!!
